🍃 Background

What’s a Digital Garden?

Over Spring 2024, I was connected to the lovely Melisa—who was looking for someone playful to build a creative tool of any kind with.

She introduced me to the concept of digital gardens, and we knew immediately that we wanted to make something that felt like a safe, cozy corner on the internet for people to share.

Problem

As designers, we found common ground in our frustration with existing platforms for sharing creative work. While platforms like Instagram and X offer casual posting, they lack organization.

On the other hand, Behance and portfolio websites provide structure but feel too formal. We wanted a space that combines the casual/less polished nature of social media with the organization of professional platforms.

PROBLEM: There’s a lack of a middle ground for creatives to share in-progress work, creating a barrier for experimentation and making it overwhelming to post ideas that aren't fully polished or finalized.

Our original concept played on bento UI practices, though this was scrapped in favor of a more unique garden-like approach. We wanted to keep the platform feeling simple.
